Gem of the Month: Citrine

Hi all you #BeautifulAndCapable! We’re talking about Citrine today.

It’s the perfect stone for this time of year as the days get shorter and the nights get longer. Citrine’s shades of yellow, orange, and gold are like the sun’s brightness bundled into a gem.

Citrine is also November’s birthstone, along with Yellow Topaz. (And if your birthday is in November, we’re wishing you the best year yet!)

Citrine and Yellow Topaz look a lot alike. In fact, before modern gemology, all yellow stones were considered Topaz. But the two gems have different structures. Citrine is a type of quartz, it’s more affordable than topaz, and it’s a hardier gem. All of this makes it perfect for jewelry you can wear every day without worry but with plenty of sparkle.

Citrine’s name comes from the French word for lemon, citron. Though the gem can be found in its natural state, it’s often created by treating purple Amethyst with heat until it turns yellow and gold.

According to The Beginner’s Guide to Crystals, Citrine is called the Merchant’s stone because it’s associated with abundance and manifesting your dreams. If you aren’t certain what you want to manifest, Citrine can illuminate aspirations and desires. It’s a stone with good vibrations and positivity, and it’s a genius at cleaning up negative energy. You can’t beat that in a necklace or a pair of earrings! Use Citrine in your home to create happiness, warmth, and creativity. Use it in your workplace for motivation.

Like many gems with yellow tones, Citrine relates to the solar plexus chakra, also known as the third chakra. Energized by the sun, it brings confidence and increases self-esteem.

That’s a whole list of reasons to love Citrine! And we are definitely feeling love for each one of you, #BeautifulAndCapable. Thanks for being a part of Anna Balkan Jewelry!
